[edit] Professional life
I have just finished my Masters in Computer Graphics. I spent the first year doing the required classes (15 credits out of 45), and spent the next two doing some research work and writing my thesis. See Masters for more information.
I am currently working for CM Labs Simulations Inc. who make a physics engine called Vortex, as well as turn-key simulators (integrated software and hardware solutions) for heavy machinery such as cranes, concrete pumps, etc. I am the company's only specialist graphics programmer, and I generally split my time pretty evenly between the graphical demos of the Vortex physics engine and improving the graphical look and performance of the simulators.
In the past, I have worked in tech support for a few employers, and later in software development for Hybride, a digital visual effects company. That two-year job convinced me to finish my Bachelor's degree and then to do a Masters to specialize in real-time computer graphics programming to hopefully work in the video games, simulations or film industry.

[edit] News
- The presentation for my Masters was this morning, and the judges unanimously voted to accept my thesis. This is the end of over 3 years of hard work, which has been a very interesting period both in the professional and personal sides of my life. I am very happy that it's done, and I suspect I will be doing more research in this field in the future. The Masters page will be updated shortly with a detailed description of my work and some videos as well.
- I created a few new pages: Battle for Atlantis, ACFAS2006, Software Tools, importBibTeX.pl. I also updated my C.V. and some other pages. And with the help of my importBibTeX.pl script, I put all my references on the site (see Category:BibTex).
- I updated the site to MediaWiki 1.10.0 . It had been a while since it had been updated because I had mistakenly disabled the yum repository that had the updates, and was under the impression that it was kept up to date when I updated my system every two weeks or so...
- I have added an extension that allows me to put a BibTex reference on a page between special tags and it will be formatted. See Template:BibTex, Template:ref and Template:refa for how I use it (totally as suggested on the extension's wiki page). I would like to extend this so that I can upload a file containing lots of references and then refer to them in wiki pages. That way I could just update the file when I get new references, and it's faster than having to make a different page in the BibTex namespace for each reference... I'll see if I ever get to that.
- I had two links pointing to non-existing pages on the front page. I had put those there to motivate me to write the pages, since I find the red links ugly... Well, there you are. Curriculum Vitae English and Masters have been created. the C.V. is pretty complete and up to date. The other one is just a stub for now, I'll add to it when I have something concrete to report...
- Added a new page called Selected School Projects that lists a few interesting projects I did in classes. I think this is a good "hands-on" resumé type page to have. I've been thinking of doing something like that for a while... Well, there it is.
- This is a test news item. There have been some changes to the Games page to improve its formatting (Legend to the right, platform icons (
), etc.)
